Marching off to reality!

I really haven’t been keeping up with this site lately. Another entire month without posting! I apologize to the select few who are genuinely interested in my life.

Things have been going well for me, but I’ve been very stressed. I have been doing some accounting work for my father as well as substitute teaching and tutoring on the side. The main thing that has been hard lately is trying to find a “real” job for September. I finished all parts of my teaching certification and I’m just awaiting the scores of my last standardized test. I think I may need to take an online workshop, too, but that’s no problem. Once those two things are done and processed, my certification will be processed! I am so excited. It’s such a feeling of accomplishment to finally achieve this goal of getting my certification.

I’ve been sending out resumes to almost every school district on Long Island. I’ve heard nothing so far, but it’s still a bit early to tell as most schools are in their final weeks of classes. I’m sure once that dies down a lot of districts will begin the interviewing process. I have been thinking of going and buying a business suit for these interviews. A lot of my professional clothes are too big on me now so I will need new pants and a few new shirts, as well. I’m not complaining. I’ve lost about 30 pounds so far and I’m going strong.

So wish me luck on this job hunt. It’s crazy stressful.

A big update on lots of things!

Well, another month without blogging. I suck.
I will give you a brief synopsis of all the major updates in my life right now.

Student Teaching
The end of student teaching went very well. I really miss my students more than I thought I would. I learned a lot from my student teaching experience and I’m really confident that this is the profession for me. I’m very eager to try and find a job for September. It is such a rewarding experience. The last day of student teaching I brought all my classes bagels. (Yes, I spent like $80 on bagels.) I felt they really deserved it and wanted to do something special for all of them for my last day. I also gave them all a survey asking them what they thought about different aspects of my teaching. Some of the replies I got were really cute or silly, some of them were mean and vindictive, and some of them were actually helpful. Overall I was quite pleased with the surveys. I wasn’t going to let the mean ones bother me, haha. Silly little 9th graders. I know they just hate math and not me.

Certification
My teaching certification is in the works now! I have passed my first two standardized teaching test exams and just need to take the third, which is scheduled for May 31st. This last one shouldn’t be a problem because it’s the one in pure mathematics which will obviously be the easiest for me. Hopefully I will have my certification by June. Woot!

Prospective Jobs
I sent my resume to a couple of school districts but I haven’t heard anything yet. The only thing I have heard is for a leave replacement in Dix Hills school district. It’s a leave replacement/permanent substitute job for mathematics for September. I really think it would be a great start for me.

Other Moneymakings
This summer I plan on working for my father quite a bit. I need to complete his 2008 taxes for his business. It’s good money, it’s a relaxed setting, and I get to see Josh all day which is always a good thing! Besides that, I am still on the substitute list for the rest of the year (until June) at the district where I student taught. That is $100 a day! I also have acquired a tutoring job recently. I will be tutoring a 9th grade student twice a week to prepare for his regents. I get $50 per hour. That is another $100 per week! This whole teaching thing is really paying off! FINALLY. Lastly, I am now officially a cantor at this new parish. They pay me $75 per mass that I cantor (sing) at. I’m doing 1 mass this weekend and 3 next weekend! I am so excited.

Josh
Josh finally is getting his green card! We had our last meeting with immigration yesterday morning/afternoon. We are basically just waiting for it to be mailed to us. He already has his work authorization and will be able to work here now!! We are going to work on getting him a social security card as well as a driver’s license very soon.

I hope all is well with all of my readers! I miss you guys. Hopefully I will be around a lot more now that I’m a bit less busy.

Oh, and last but not least… I’ve lost 28 pounds so far.

Absentee!?

I don’t know where the heck I’ve been. Well, I’ve been right here actually. I haven’t really been on the internet lately. I guess that’s a good thing and a bad thing. Student teaching is still going well. It’s not done until May 2nd and even though sometimes it drains me I really think I picked the right profession. Besides this, nothing new is really happening in my life. How have you all been? Tell me what’s been going on in your lives!
